Rommel Banlaoi C. Banlaoi, PhD, is a pivotal scholar in Philippines-China relations for blending academic rigor with pragmatic policy development. He is the Director of the newly established Philippines-China Studies Centre (PCSC) and President of the Philippine Society for International Security Studies (PSISS). He also served as Adjunct Professor at the National Institute for South China Sea Studies. In 2022, he was designated as Deputy National Security Advisor (with the rank of Vice Minister). But has resumed his work as an independent scholar and non-government adviser/consultant to some elected officials and academic institutions in the Philippines like the University of the Philippines (UP), De La Salle University (DLSU), National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), World Citi College (WCC), Miriam College (MC) and New Era University (NEU). He was President of the Philippine Association for Chinese Studies (PACS), Member of the Board of the World Association for Chinese Studies (WACS) and co-founder of the China Studies Center (CSC) at NEU. He finished his PhD in International Relations at Jinan University, China and his BA and MA in Political Science at UP Diliman, the Philippines.
He is currently a Non-Resident Scholar at Huayang Center for Maritime Cooperation and Ocean Governance.
